In 1907, a German chemist, Ludwig Graf, registered a patent in several countries for the production of liquid flavourings. The process was similar to the one that Julius Maggi had been carefully keeping secret for twenty years, and from then on his flagship product faced fierce competition. He then turned the situation around by proposing new packaging that immediately won over consumers: pre-dosed bouillon packaged in cube form, known as the Kub.
