SYSTEMA ALIMENTARIUM – Towards a Great Food Revolution?
The exhibition invites you to reflect on the global food system and the issues it is currently facing in relation to global health and the environment. Through a journey enriched by video installations, photographs by leading reporters, contemporary works of art and almost 500 heritage objects from the museum’s collections, the exhibition immerses you into the heart of an essential question: what does it mean to “eat well” today?
Vegetable garden
Over 300 edible plants grow season after season in our urban vegetable garden. A true open-air exhibition where you’ll discover a rich variety of local and exotic species, some of them rare. Vegetables, cereals, tubers, aromatic herbs and melliferous flowers invite you to explore a living collection of plants that play an essential role in our diet.
Kitchen
The Alimentarium kitchen is a multipurpose educational space. Culinary workshops, scientific animations, lectures and tastings take place here throughout the year. Products from the vegetable garden, a precious resource, are highlighted by various events. The kitchen is a place where knowledge and know-how can be passed on. It encourages meaningful exchange with the museum team and its many guests.
Junior area
The Junior area is a unique learning space, with a child-friendly kitchen and a fun area with over 25 games on food and nutrition. By reservation, it welcomes school classes, families and children for culinary workshops that raise awareness of sustainable food in a participatory approach.
