Visitor Regulations

The reception areas on the ground floor consist of an entrance hall, a bookstore-gift shop, and a café, 
where no admission ticket is required. Subject to change, these areas are open every day except 
Mondays and certain public holidays, according to the following hours: 

• Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, during winter hours 
  (October to March) 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM. 
• Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, during summer hours 
  (April to September) 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM. 

The Alimentarium reserves the right to modify these hours and to limit or eliminate free access on an 
exceptional basis. 

Self-service lockers are available for the public to store their personal belongings, except for luggage exceeding dimensions of 55cm x 35cm x 20cm (including pockets, wheels, and handles). For larger luggage, no supervision can be provided. The wardrobe is reserved for museum visitors. All items stored in a locker must be removed on the same day before the museum closes. After this time, lost items will be kept at the museum reception for a duration of 366 days. They will then be disposed of according to sorting rules. Perishable items are destroyed each evening after closing. The Alimentarium disclaims any responsibility for theft, loss, or damage to items deposited in the lockers.

Public restrooms are located in the basement. Accessible restrooms for persons with reduced mobility are located on the 2nd floor. They are strictly reserved for museum visitors and café customers.

To access the museum's exhibition halls, visitors must obtain a sticker at the reception valid for the day of the visit, for both tickets purchased on-site and online. The sticker must remain visible throughout the visit. Unannounced checks may be conducted by the museum's surveillance staff. Certain exhibition halls may occasionally be closed to the public. Their closure does not entitle visitors to a refund of the admission ticket. The invitation to leave the exhibition halls is announced approximately 30 and 15 minutes before the museum's actual closing. Any resale of admission tickets or stickers is strictly prohibited.

The following rules must be observed in the exhibition halls. It is particularly prohibited:

• To touch the collection objects, unless expressly indicated. Exceptions may be granted by the museum's management for blind or visually impaired individuals.
• To consume food or beverages in the exhibition halls; except for educational activities organized for the Alimentarium's audiences.
• To disturb the public with any noisy behavior, particularly by using a mobile phone. 
• To use electrical outlets located in the exhibition halls. 

It is not permitted to carry: 

• Bags, towels, folders, luggage, or packages larger than 55cm x 35cm x 20cm.
• Backpacks, except for medical backpacks.
• Scooters, rollerblades, skateboards, or electric unicycles.
• Canes , except white cane for blind or visually impaired persons, elderly individuals, or those with physical disabilities; umbrellas and walking sticks, unless equipped with a tip and used as crutches by individuals with reduced mobility.
• Balloons.
• Musical instruments.
• Protective helmets for adults (motorcycle, bicycle).
• Tripods and supports for photography equipment: selfie sticks, tripods, etc. They may nevertheless be authorized, subject to Management approval.

Dogs and other pets are not allowed in the museum, the café, the garden, or on the café terrace, except for assistance animals.

Groups benefiting from a guided tour may not exceed 15 people. Each group member must have a sticker displayed visibly throughout the visit. Group leaders must pay for the sticker for their entire group at the museum reception. Leaders commit to ensuring that their group complies with these regulations. School groups must be accompanied by teachers. Groups must not obstruct other visitors, particularly by standing in front of stairs or blocking access. Guided tours conducted by external guides must yield to guided tours conducted by the Alimentarium. The Alimentarium reserves the right to shorten the tour if the group arrives too late.

The public refrains from any act that may threaten the safety of individuals and property.

It is not permitted to: 

• Smoke or vape within the museum premises, including in the garden and on the terrace.
• Use the stairs while carrying a wheelchair or stroller. An elevator is available for this purpose. 
• Slide or sit on the handrails of the stairs. 
• Write or graffiti on the walls, floors, and furniture. 
• Run, climb, or push. 
• Leave personal items unattended. 
• Leave children under 10 years old unsupervised. Parents or guardians of minors are responsible for their actions and compliance with these regulations.
• Carry a person on shoulders.
• Move seats or furniture without permission from the reception or surveillance staff.
• Tamper with a fire alarm box or emergency equipment without reason. 
• Tamper with theft alarm systems.

 It should also be noted that:

• Any sign of fire or accident must be reported immediately to the reception or surveillance staff. 
• Abandoned items that appear to pose a danger to the museum's safety may be destroyed without delay or notice by the competent security services. 
• In the event of theft or attempted theft, alert measures may be taken, including closing access points and controlling exits. An inspection of bags and clothing by reception and surveillance staff or a body search by local police officers may then be required.
• For security reasons, the public may be asked to open bags and packages and present their contents anywhere in the museum at the request of reception and surveillance staff.
• The museum building is under video surveillance. For any questions regarding the operation of the video surveillance system, please contact the security manager by email at info@alimentarium.org.
• Any accident, illness of a person, or abnormal event must be reported to the surveillance staff. If among the public, a doctor, nurse, or first-aider intervenes, they are invited to leave their name and address with the reception or surveillance staff.
• The Alimentarium will implement health checks prescribed by the authorities.

In the exhibition halls, unless otherwise indicated, exhibition objects and artworks may be photographed or filmed for private use only. Filming and photographing installations and technical and security equipment is prohibited. Exceptional permissions may be granted by the museum's management. Professional photography, filming, and recording of radio and television broadcasts are subject to prior approval from the management. Any recording, filming, or sound recording involving staff and/or the public requires, in addition to the museum's authorization, the consent of the individuals concerned. The Alimentarium disclaims any responsibility towards third parties in case of violation of these provisions. Any survey or opinion poll among the Alimentarium's audiences must be submitted for prior authorization from the museum's management.

Failure to comply with the provisions of these regulations may result in denial of access, immediate eviction from the museum, and/or, if applicable, legal proceedings. Museum staff, particularly reception and surveillance staff, are responsible for enforcing these regulations. Assaults against museum staff, as well as threats or insults, may result in legal action against the perpetrators.
