This knife is used exclusively by Inuit women. The Canadian version shown here is distinguishable from other regional shapes by the unique rod that holds the blade to the handle sculpted from caribou antlers. This characteristic shape ensures that, when the knife is used, the force exerted is concentrated in the middle of the blade. This makes the knife ideal for cutting bones, fresh or frozen meat, animal tendons (used as sewing thread) or blocks of ice. The rounded shape of the blade also makes it suited to cleaning skins.
