What is eructation?
Eructation, more commonly known as burping, refers to the discharge of gas through the mouth and is generally accompanied by a sound and sometimes an odour.What causes eructation?
Fizzy drinks can cause burping, as can eating or drinking too quickly. Gastroesophageal reflux and aerophagia can also cause eructation. Aerophagia is the term for swallowing air.
Did you know that the Englishman Paul Hunn holds the world record for the loudest burp? One of his burps measured 109.9 decibels, almost as loud as a chainsaw!
