Economic growth in the BRICS, a group of five big developing countries named after their initials Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, is reflected in their meat consumption. Together, they account for 40 percent of the world’s population. Between 2003 and 2012, their meat consumption rose by 6.3 percent a year. It is expected to rise by another 2.5 percent a year between 2013 and 2022.
